Sensitive Breasts Causes: Hormone Changes, Pregnancy, Breastfeeding, Puberty, Bra Size

Sensitive Breasts

It is common that at some point in their lives, women experience discomfort and sensitivity in the breasts and nipples. This may be a temporary condition due to some changes in the body. Or a permanent condition that will require immediate medical attention to prevent more serious health problems.

If you have ever noticed that your breasts are more delicate or vulnerable to touch and you want to know the possible causes, then this article provides answer to the most commonly asked question –

Why do I have sensitive breasts?

(1) Hormonal Changes: One of the main causes associated with breast sensitivity is related to hormonal changes that occur before the menstrual period. In premenstrual syndrome, there is an increased production of estrogen and progesterone which leads to a slight growth of the breasts making them more swollen and sensitive to the touch. In addition, this may be accompanied by other symptoms such as irritability, general malaise, headaches, dizziness, fatigue, fluid retention, among others.

(2) Pregnancy: Breast pain and tenderness is one of the first symptoms of pregnancy also due to increased hormone production. This condition usually subsides after the first trimester of pregnancy as the body gets used to it and hormone levels become more stable. In addition to breast tenderness, there may also be other ailments such as breast tingling, itching, stretch marks and larger, dark aureoles.

(3) Breastfeeding: It is normal for the breasts to be more sensitive and sore than usual due to the baby’s sucking. One condition that can aggravate sensitivity is called puerperal mastitis, an inflammation of the mammary gland that occurs when milk secretion does not flow properly and ends up accumulating.

(4) Puberty: Breast tenderness may be a natural condition due to the development of the breast tissue and the hormonal changes that take place at that stage. In this case, the sensation of discomfort or tender breasts is transitory and will disappear when breast development is complete.

(5) Bra Size: Feeling of breasts more sensitive than normal may simply be due to the use of certain bras made of synthetic fabrics that are not suitable for the skin and that with the continuous rubbing end up causing irritation and pain in the nipples. Similarly, it is essential to select the right bra size to be comfortable and avoid other ailments such as back pain.

Remember the importance of visiting your gynecologist and having the appropriate medical tests to make sure your health is in perfect condition.
