Avocado for Fertility: Benefits during IVF & Pregnancy
It is a fact that lifestyle and diet affect fertility, both in men and women. Although it is not scientifically proven that there are foods that increase fertility, maintaining good eating habits has an influence on conceiving and having a healthy pregnancy.
There are certain foods that are rich in key nutrients for fertility and that will adequately prepare you for pregnancy. And Avocado is one such food that is highly recommended for couples dealing with infertility problem.
Avocado & Male Fertility
According to a study by the University of Illinois (USA), the Omega-3 fatty acids contained in avocado increases male fertility, since they improve sperm health and aid in the maturation of sperm. They provide various enzymes necessary for their formation and maturation.
Avocado & Female Infertility
Avocado is super nutritious fruit and its properties can significantly help in treating fertility related problems.
Rich in Omega-3: They also contribute to ovulation, since they improve the quality of the oocytes. A diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids may help regulate ovulation, improve egg quality and even slow down the aging of the ovaries.
Replace trans fats with Omega 3 and 6: Although they increase the taste, trans fats have a harmful effect on your body. The recommendation is to replace this fat with Omega 3 and 6. And avocado is one such food which is rich in Omega 3 and 6.
Rich in Monounsaturated Fatty Acids: Also known as MUFA. They are associated with lower rates of ovulatory infertility. The avocado is a fruit rich in monounsaturated fats, the same one that olive oil has, very beneficial for health.

Studies show that women who eat a diet rich in MUFA are almost 3.5 times more likely to succeed with in vitro fertilization. It can be eaten salty or sweet, smeared or in pieces.
Rich in Vitamin-E: Avocado is a very fashionable food because of its high content of good fats and vitamin E. Some studies have shown that this food multiplies the success of fertility treatments by 300%. It also contains vitamin E, which works as an antioxidant, and minerals such as iron, phosphorus or magnesium.
Rich in Water: It is a fruit rich in water (72%) and, unlike most fruits, avocado does not increase glucose in blood circulation.
During IVF Treatment
In vitro fertility treatments (IVF) are three times more successful when we increase the consumption of monounsaturated fats such as those found in avocado and unrefined vegetable oils (totally or partially hydrogenated) because of their richness in oleic acid, a very healthy monounsaturated fat.
The skin that protects the avocado protects its beautiful green pulp that is especially rich in fiber, antioxidants, magnesium, folic acid, vitamin C, phytosterols and healthy fats.
Prevents Hypertension: Avocado adds the benefits of the two types of fiber and is rich in insoluble (70%) and soluble (30%) fiber which helps us to go to the bathroom regularly, improve our healthy bacterial flora, helps us to a good regulation of glucose, cholesterol and detoxification of our body. A diet rich in fiber like the one contained in avocado prevents preclamation (hypertension) during pregnancy.
Reduces Risk of Premature Delivery: It is rich in vitamin C, vitamin B6 and vitamin B9 or folic acid. Folic acid is especially important for pregnant mothers because a lack of folic acid intake conditions a higher risk of suffering a preterm birth, the birth of the baby with low body weight, with heart or neural tube defects.
Prevents Preeclampsia: Avocado is rich in minerals such as magnesium, copper and especially potassium which helps to prevent preeclampsia during pregnancy.
Fetus Growth: It improves hormonal health, ovulation, fertility and the correct growth of the fetus during pregnancy and the quality of breast milk during lactation.
Brain and Eyes of Baby: Since it is rich in Omega 3 which is important for the development of the baby’s brain and eyes and could bring many other benefits to pregnancy, such as reducing risks of depression in expecting mothers.
Recipes using Avocado
Here are the two recipes that you can prepare using avocado:
Recipe-1: Avocado Salad (100% Vegetarian) for Fertility:
- 1/2 small avocado.
- Small piece of onion.
- Few drops of lemon juice
- 1 tbsp of olive oil
- 1 lettuce leaf
- Peel the onion piece and cut it up.
- Remove the pulp from the avocado.
- Put both ingredients in the glass of the electric mixer.
- Add oil and lemon juice and blend until you get a cream.
- Wash the lettuce leaf and cut it into strips. Put them on a plate.
- Add the avocado cream and serve immediately.
Recipe-2: Chicken, potato and avocado cream
- 1 portion of chicken breast
- 1 potato
- 100 g of green beans
- 1/2 ripe avocado
- Cut the chicken breast into small pieces. Rinse with cold water, shell and cut the beans. Peel and cut the potatoes into cubes of 1 to 2 centimeters on each side.
- Steam the chicken, beans and potatoes.
- Collect a few spoonfuls of the cooking liquid and add to the blender, along with the vegetables and chicken.
- Cut the avocado in half and empty it with the help of a spoon, add to the blender.
- Beat the mixture. Adjust the amount of cooking juice according to the desired texture.
