Sex with Balanitis: Think Before Having Sex

Balanitis is a commonly occurring condition in men that can develop at any age.

The 2 most common symptoms are –

  1. Inflammation in the skin covering the glans penis
  2. Itching and discomfort in the intimate area

Causes of Balanitis

It can be caused by a variety of factors such as –

  • Poor hygiene of the genital area
  • Infections caused by fungi or bacteria
  • Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD’s)
  • Dermatitis due to the use of irritating products
  • Phimosis, i.e. foreskin of the penis does not retract completely

This is the reason why the condition should be treated at a very early stage.

Can men have sexual intercourse with balanitis?

Balanitis is an infection or inflammation of the glans penis. The head of the penis shows signs of redness, irritation, itching, itching, watery discharge and moisture in the affected area. It can be caused by different conditions and that is why it is important to visit the doctor in order for right diagnosis and treatment.

Balanitis can be a symptom of a fungal infection, such as Candida albicans, or some sexually transmitted infections such as genital herpes, gonorrhea or chlamydia, so if any of the above symptoms appear, it is essential to see a doctor to find out the exact cause.

Irrespective of the symptom/cause, it is advisable NOT TO HAVE SEX WITH BALINITIS until the diagnosis and medical indications are known. This is because, if it is a result of a fungal infection or any type of STD there is a risk of contagion when having sex. In addition, you should take into account that due to the inflammation and irritation on the glans penis, intercourse will be uncomfortable and the friction and continuous rubbing may aggravate the symptoms.

How prevent balanitis

There are number of measures that will prevent this condition and protect your intimate health at all times:

  • Use a condom in all your sexual relations, whether vaginal or anal
  • Maintain proper intimate hygiene
  • Avoid using soaps or irritating products in the genital area
  • Keep intimate area dry
